Just as the kiss of a mother brings joy to the child's heart, so too the glimpse of the beloved creates a flow of appreciation within the lover's heart. A kind word of appreciation can lift a persons day into a great day. A walk with your family dog or time spent stroking your cat also cultures finer feelings.

Blissful sleep for better health with Ayurveda (video + transcript)

By |2019-02-05T15:01:12+00:00February 16th, 2018|Anxiety, Brain, Consciousness, Detox, Digestion, Dr Donn Brennan videos, Drinks, Emotions, Fatigue, Food, Heart, Kapha, Meditation, Mind, Obesity, Pitta, Sleep, Stress, Vata, Weightloss|

In truth, we need more sleep than we think we need. All the research is pointing to a minimum of eight hours sleep that people actually need for the work that the brain needs to do overnight to be accomplished. Less sleep leaves us less capable, even if we don’t know it. Even an hour’s lack of sleep [each night] over a 10-day period leaves us as incompetent and incapable cognitively, as if we had missed a whole night’s sleep for one night. The only difference is we don’t recognise it. We don’t know it.

By |2017-09-05T13:51:42+01:00January 20th, 2017|Digestion, Food, Heart, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Oils, Recipes|

I run courses on Maharishi AyurVeda, food and cooking and one frequently asked question is, “What’s the best oil to cook with?”. I respond that my favourite cooking oils are ghee, coconut oil and olive oil*, in that order. There is no controversy surrounding olive oil – after all, haven’t there been lots of TV ads implying that perpetual youth and vitality are almost guaranteed through consuming it? [...]

Video: Ayurveda and Mens’ Health

Women used to be called the 'weaker sex', yet from the Ayurvedic perspective, the opposite seems to be the case as men are considered more prone to disease and early death. Research bears this out and female live expectancy is found to be greater that of males. Men also tend to suffer more than women from life-threatening diseases, such as obesity and heart disease. In this video Dr Donn Brennan looks at the various health problems of men [...]

Take care of your heart with Ayurveda

By |2017-09-05T13:50:34+01:00December 2nd, 2013|Heart, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs|

In Ayurveda the heart is seen as more than just a blood circulation pump. Emotions and feelings, such as love, joy and sorrow, are centered in our heart. Consciousness and life itself flows through our heart. What is breaking our hearts We can suffer from a broken heart when we go though a relationship breakdown. In a more physical sense, our heart can be ‘broken’ when we suffer from a [...]

Increase Ojas to promote heart health

By |2017-09-05T13:50:34+01:00December 2nd, 2013|Ayurveda Diary, Heart|

Ojas is said to be the finest and most subtle of all body tissues and is viewed by Ayurveda as central to good health. Ojas circulates thoughout the whole body and is responsible for it strength and resilience. When you have a good amount of Ojas moving freely around the body, it acts like a protective sheild.
