The season of mellow fruitfulness is almost with us.  Time to anticipate your holiday by the sea, to change to lighter, cooler foods, to plan to catch a music festival and a garden show.  How different we feel from just a few months ago when the cold, damp days and short night were with us. Ayurveda is the most ancient health tradition on earth.  It explains the change of mood [...]

The Importance of Balance: Life is uncertain.  The only certainty is that everything changes.  The secret of good health and happiness according to Maharishi Ayurveda is to remain balanced amidst the change.  Balance is an individual thing because everyone is unique.  The beauty of Ayurveda is that it helps everyone to find their own balance. A little pressure or demand on us is good for us.  Otherwise, life becomes a [...]

Have you noticed a mental health hangover from the pandemic with people around you quietly worried about what the future will bring, feeling anxious, alone or isolated? Even though easing of restrictions has allowed us to reconnect with the people and things we love, the pace of change is challenging, especially with the current conflict in Eastern Europe. A mental health hangover occurs when the demands posed by the environment [...]

Were you one of the rare students who couldn't wait to go back to school after the summer holidays? Remember the thrill of getting new pencils, crayons and notebooks and meeting your new teacher? In July we couldn't wait for summer vacation to start, but by early September we actually looked forward to beginning another school year. It's good to take a break. Not just for a summer, but regularly, in big and small ways. The lockdown may actually have beneficial results.

Being Ahead of the Game

By |2019-03-27T15:46:10+00:00March 27th, 2019|Anxiety, Fatigue, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Meditation, Mental Performance, Mind, Sleep, Stress|

No matter one’s age and stage feeling well resourced to meet the day when we wake and as we start our day, be it at home or in the office, really does make a difference. This I call being ahead of the game. Maharishi AyurVeda has a question that identifies if you are ahead of the game. In the morning do you wake feeling rested, clear and alert?

Kates Sleep Story

By |2019-03-20T16:32:25+00:00March 20th, 2019|Emotions, Fatigue, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Mind, Sleep|

Kate smiled at me with bright eyes, self-assured and at ease. She looked healthy, vibrant and was very different from the anxious, frightened, overwrought young woman who for 6 months had slept 2-3 hours a night at times (and sometimes not at all). I asked her if she would be okay to share her story so that her experience may in some way serve others, and she was happy to do so.

Seven Keys to Unlock Your Brain Power this Spring

By |2019-03-19T16:54:11+00:00March 19th, 2019|Brain, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Mental Performance, Mind, Nutrition, Sleep, Stress|

According to Maharishi AyurVeda, there are three equally important aspects to mental performance: dhi — learning and comprehension, governed by Vata dosha; dhriti — processing and retention of knowledge, the realm of Pitta dosha; and smriti— memory or recall, controlled by Kapha dosha. For the best mental performance and realization of the fullest mental potential, each of these three factors individually needs to be at its peak, and, more important, the coordination among the three factors also needs to be optimal.

By |2019-03-01T09:04:36+00:00February 26th, 2019|Anxiety, Emotions, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Mind, Sleep, Stress|

Depression is becoming more common among the overall population today. Recently I was asked to visit a local school to talk about depression and how Maharishi AyurVeda helps recovery from depression. It was both enlightening and alarming to see how aware these young adults were about depression, with a number having first hand experience of it within their communities. So this week we thought to look at the causes of depression and suggest key strategies for preventing or recovering from depression.

Blissful sleep for better health with Ayurveda (video + transcript)

By |2019-02-05T15:01:12+00:00February 16th, 2018|Anxiety, Brain, Consciousness, Detox, Digestion, Dr Donn Brennan videos, Drinks, Emotions, Fatigue, Food, Heart, Kapha, Meditation, Mind, Obesity, Pitta, Sleep, Stress, Vata, Weightloss|

In truth, we need more sleep than we think we need. All the research is pointing to a minimum of eight hours sleep that people actually need for the work that the brain needs to do overnight to be accomplished. Less sleep leaves us less capable, even if we don’t know it. Even an hour’s lack of sleep [each night] over a 10-day period leaves us as incompetent and incapable cognitively, as if we had missed a whole night’s sleep for one night. The only difference is we don’t recognise it. We don’t know it.

The concept of the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – is most people’s route into understanding Ayurveda. It’s easy to grasp how Vata Dosha can be responsible for all movement, Pitta for all transformations and Kapha for all structure in our body and the world around us. But there is a deeper level of this understanding though and the three Doshas have their root or master [...]

For thousands of years Ayurveda has created numerous Ghritas or herbalised ghees – herbs infused into ghee in order to enhanced their therapeutic effects. How are Ghritas produced? Ayurvedic practitioner, Dr Donn Brennan [...]

Rasayanas are holistic in nature and tend to promote vitality, balance and health throughout the whole mind/body system. The word itself means to enliven (Ayana) the essence (Rasa) of life. Certain daily routines promote a Rasayana effect, such as going to bed early and getting up [...]

Ayurvedic secret for preventing colds and dealing with sinus problems

Just like any other part of your body, your nasal passages and sinuses should be regularly cleaned, according to Ayurveda. Regular cleansing, using Ayurvedic nasal techniques called Nasya, will help remove accumulated impurities, maintain your immune system and balance the Doshas in the head region. Since we get the majority of our external Prana (life-force) though our breathing, clean sinuses will also help increase the flow of Prana directly into [...]
