The season of mellow fruitfulness is almost with us.  Time to anticipate your holiday by the sea, to change to lighter, cooler foods, to plan to catch a music festival and a garden show.  How different we feel from just a few months ago when the cold, damp days and short night were with us. Ayurveda is the most ancient health tradition on earth.  It explains the change of mood [...]

The Importance of Balance: Life is uncertain.  The only certainty is that everything changes.  The secret of good health and happiness according to Maharishi Ayurveda is to remain balanced amidst the change.  Balance is an individual thing because everyone is unique.  The beauty of Ayurveda is that it helps everyone to find their own balance. A little pressure or demand on us is good for us.  Otherwise, life becomes a [...]

No matter one’s age and stage feeling well resourced to meet the day when we wake and as we start our day, be it at home or in the office, really does make a difference. This I call being ahead of the game. Maharishi AyurVeda has a question that identifies if you are ahead of the game. In the morning do you wake feeling rested, clear and alert?

Preventing Depression with Maharishi AyurVeda

By |2019-03-01T09:04:36+00:00February 26th, 2019|Anxiety, Emotions, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Mind, Sleep, Stress|

Depression is becoming more common among the overall population today. Recently I was asked to visit a local school to talk about depression and how Maharishi AyurVeda helps recovery from depression. It was both enlightening and alarming to see how aware these young adults were about depression, with a number having first hand experience of it within their communities. So this week we thought to look at the causes of depression and suggest key strategies for preventing or recovering from depression.

Blissful sleep for better health with Ayurveda (video + transcript)

By |2019-02-05T15:01:12+00:00February 16th, 2018|Anxiety, Brain, Consciousness, Detox, Digestion, Dr Donn Brennan videos, Drinks, Emotions, Fatigue, Food, Heart, Kapha, Meditation, Mind, Obesity, Pitta, Sleep, Stress, Vata, Weightloss|

In truth, we need more sleep than we think we need. All the research is pointing to a minimum of eight hours sleep that people actually need for the work that the brain needs to do overnight to be accomplished. Less sleep leaves us less capable, even if we don’t know it. Even an hour’s lack of sleep [each night] over a 10-day period leaves us as incompetent and incapable cognitively, as if we had missed a whole night’s sleep for one night. The only difference is we don’t recognise it. We don’t know it.

The concept of the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – is most people’s route into understanding Ayurveda. It’s easy to grasp how Vata Dosha can be responsible for all movement, Pitta for all transformations and Kapha for all structure in our body and the world around us. But there is a deeper level of this understanding though and the three Doshas have their root or master [...]
