The season of mellow fruitfulness is almost with us.  Time to anticipate your holiday by the sea, to change to lighter, cooler foods, to plan to catch a music festival and a garden show.  How different we feel from just a few months ago when the cold, damp days and short night were with us. Ayurveda is the most ancient health tradition on earth.  It explains the change of mood [...]

You are what you eat. To most people this means simply that the vitamins, carbs, and proteins in food build the cells, blood and bones of your body. But in Maharishi Ayurveda, "you are what you eat" means something far more subtle and powerful. Food is known to directly influence your consciousness and feelings. It can create bliss or anger, contentment or restlessness, thoughts of the sacred or the profane. [...]

The Importance of Balance: Life is uncertain.  The only certainty is that everything changes.  The secret of good health and happiness according to Maharishi Ayurveda is to remain balanced amidst the change.  Balance is an individual thing because everyone is unique.  The beauty of Ayurveda is that it helps everyone to find their own balance. A little pressure or demand on us is good for us.  Otherwise, life becomes a [...]

by Mrs Suneeta Lakshmi Lies Summer solstice was officially June 21 which marked the brightest and longest day of the year. The weather is heating up and the summery clothing is coming out as this is the season when Pitta Dosha, (the bodily process and bio-energetic force composed of predominately fire and water elements), is increasing internally in our bodies and our external environments. Yet, remember those traffic jams, long delays, cancelled flights, unpredictable weather and being back in amongst crowds again. Holiday travelling can easily become miserable. Yet, getting away from it [...]

Blissful sleep for better health with Ayurveda (video + transcript)

By |2019-02-05T15:01:12+00:00February 16th, 2018|Anxiety, Brain, Consciousness, Detox, Digestion, Dr Donn Brennan videos, Drinks, Emotions, Fatigue, Food, Heart, Kapha, Meditation, Mind, Obesity, Pitta, Sleep, Stress, Vata, Weightloss|

In truth, we need more sleep than we think we need. All the research is pointing to a minimum of eight hours sleep that people actually need for the work that the brain needs to do overnight to be accomplished. Less sleep leaves us less capable, even if we don’t know it. Even an hour’s lack of sleep [each night] over a 10-day period leaves us as incompetent and incapable cognitively, as if we had missed a whole night’s sleep for one night. The only difference is we don’t recognise it. We don’t know it.

Spiritual Ayurveda: our Five Subtle Bodies and Three Subtle Essences

The concept of the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – is most people’s route into understanding Ayurveda. It’s easy to grasp how Vata Dosha can be responsible for all movement, Pitta for all transformations and Kapha for all structure in our body and the world around us. But there is a deeper level of this understanding though and the three Doshas have their root or master [...]

How old is Ayurveda and what are its origins?

By |2017-09-05T13:51:42+01:00April 15th, 2017|Consciousness, Knowledge, Maharishi Ayurveda Blogs, Natural cycles, Yugas|

You often find assertions such as “Ayurveda is a 3,000-year-old medical science”. Are such origin dates just plucked from the air because writers know their audience needs some reference point to what may appear, a mysterious and obscure health system? What are the real origins of Ayurveda? As old as mankind I recently went to a fascinating talk by Dr Jagdish Vaidya here in Skelmersdale, where he stated [...]
